The Ultimate Hack for Giving Glycerites To Cats
It's no secret getting medicine into your dog -- and especially cat -- can be tricky. The trial-and-error process in our home has resulted in many scratches for the humans and big attitudes for the felines.
Here are our best tricks for making the process painless and successful for you and your fur baby.
Some animals are easy
Most dogs and some cats will allow you to mix a glycerine tincture into wet food at meal time or as a treat. Our dog will eat anything we give her if it tastes mostly like meat or peanut butter. The most laid back animals will even let you squirt it directly into their mouths. We have a unicorn cat who allows this but three others who are not so willing to participate.
For the ones who turn up their nose when you tamper with dinner and pull out the claws when you give it directly by mouth, we've discovered the ultimate hack that works particularly well with cats.
Painless & Effective -- They won't even know it happened
Apply the dose to your finger tips -- you'll have to work quickly so it doesn't drip. Brush the glycerite into the cat's fur on their side towards the hip in a place they can easily reach to lick off. Their fur is hydrophobic which encourages the glycerite to roll off. Work it into the fur against the direction it grows to make a little medicine patch.
Cats are compulsive groomers and once they quickly realize a strange sticky mess has appeared in their fur, they'll clean themselves up thoroughly, consuming their entire dose in the process -- without ever knowing it happened.
